The first way to cleanse crystals I am going to talk about is Moonlight. Moonlight is one of the most favoured and safest ways to charge ALL crystal types. The full moon is a powerful source for cleansing and charging your crystals. 

To cleanse crystals using the moonlight, place your crystals outdoors where they can't be damaged from any environmental hazards, or by a window sill and leave them to bathe overnight, to give your crystals a recharge and cleanse. 

It doesn't matter if the moonlight is not in the direct view of your crystals, the moons energy is still present. Be sure to grab them no later than an hour after sunrise to prevent damage from the suns rays. 

Sunlight energy is strong and vibrant, making it a powerful source to cleanse crystals. However this method is NOT safe for all crystal types. Certain crystal compositions cannot withstand wet weather and others are prone to fading. Amethyst, Aquamarine, Calcite, Celestite, Kunzite, Fluorite, Rose Quartz and Smokey Quartz are a few not recommended for this method.

Clear Quartz is another crystal to be mindful of as it can heat up in direct sunlight and amplify the suns rays, causing a potential fire hazard.

Before you cleanse crystals using this method it is best to research if it is suitable. 

To cleanse crystals using this method, simply place your crystals in a safe area with sunlight. For added cleansing and grounding benefits place them directly onto the Earth. To be safe while using this method, place out during the sunrise or sunset when the rays aren't as strong. 

Running water is a relatively quick, simple method to cleanse crystals, this method is NOT suitable for all crystal types. Before trying this method, do a quick search to give yourself peace of mind. Any crystal that is a 5 or below on the MOHS scale should NOT be put into water.

Generally any crystal ending in "ITE" (with a few exceptions) are not suitable for water, for example, Angelite, Celestite, Labradorite, Malachite, Pyrite and Selenite to name a few.

If upon checking your crystal and it is safe for water, this cleansing method can be achieved by simply placing your in crystals a bowl or glass. Running cool tap water over them allows the negative energy to flow into the water and then washed down into the drain.

Selenite is a crystal that doesn't need cleansing itself as it transmutes negative energy naturally, but holds the ability to cleanse and purify other stones in its presence. 

To cleanse crystals using Selenite, lay or place your crystals near Selenite for several hours (or as long as you feel guided to leave them) to clear the energy off your other stones. Selenite bowls and charging plates work the best for the task as they have a good surface-to-surface touch for a more thorough cleanse. 

Cleansing using the Earths soil is based off a theory that crystals can be cleansed by returning them back to nature. This method can be a little more time consuming compared to others, but is still relatively simple to do.

To start, look for a clean place to bury your crystal/crystals. Bury your crystal/crystals in the soil just a few inches deep and then fill it back in. Leave your crystal/crystals for at least 24 hours, and then gather them up and brush/clean them off.

Keep in mind this method is not the most practical, as they will need to be cleaned afterwards. It also may not be suitable for all crystal types, particularly fragile pieces and those that may be damaged from harsh weather conditions.

One of the most commonly used methods to cleanse crystals, is by using the smoke from burning incense sticks and cones.

While there are many places selling both "White Sage sticks" and "Palo Santo sticks" these are a closed practice. There are many different alternatives that can be used respectfully. 

Cleansing your crystals using incense smoke is a good method to use as it cleanses both your crystals and space at the same time.

To cleanse crystals using incense, grab an incense stick and place it into a safe incense burner. Pass your crystal through the smoke from the incense stick for a few moments, rotating it as you go to ensure its been completely engulfed. The crystal can then be sat beside the burner and left until the smoke from the incense stops. 

A few popular Incense choices to cleanse crystals with are - 

• Sandalwood
• Amber
• Dragon’s Blood
• Nag Champa
• Patchouli
• Myrrh
• Frankincense
• Lavender

Cleansing through touch is a Native American belief. The belief holds that its not always necessary to cleanse crystals with any of these alternative methods, but rather with our own touch, as the crystals will naturally re-energize themselves through our bodies own energy field. 

To cleanse crystals using this method, simply pick them up, handle them or rub gently between the palms of your hands. 

Using sound is a safe, fast and effective method to cleanse crystals. To cleanse crystals using sound you will need a tuning fork, Tibetan singing bowl, crystal bowls, bells, chanting, drumming or cymbals. Place your stones near the instrument and hold your intention in mind. 

If you want to cleanse crystals with chanting, hold them in your hand while you are chanting. To cleanse crystals using a singing bowl, place your crystals inside the bowl and circle the stick around the rim.

This is a great way to cleanse crystals if you have a large amount of crystals that need cleansing.

There are several different cleansing methods you can choose from when it comes to using salt. This one is a non-contact method, to prevent any damages to crystals that may otherwise be damaged by direct contact. 

To cleanse crystals using the non-contact salt method you will need 

• A Glass Bowl
• A Smaller Glass container/glass
• Dry Sea salt/ Cooking salt

Fill the glass bowl half - two thirds of the way with either dry sea salt or cooking salt.

Place the smaller container/glass into the glass bowl and bury it half way. You can then add your crystals inside the smaller container/glass. Although the crystals aren't directly touching the salt, the salt will still be able to draw out negative energy. You can also add some water to the glass holding the crystals to prevent direct "Salt Exposure" or "Salty Air." Again be cautious of the crystals being used with both water and/or salt.

This method will however take a little longer to cleanse crystals. Once you have finished cleansing, dispose of the salt, don't reuse.
